Barry Nemish: Timpani  
Barry Nemish

Born and raised in Montréal, Barry Nemish pursued his musical education at McGill University. During the course of his studies he was selected to perform with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada as well as the Jeunesses Musicales World Youth Orchestra where he had the opportunity to play under Leonard Bernstein, Jean Martinon and Michael Tilson Thomas.

Mr. Nemish's professional experience includes performances with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, McGill Chamber Orchestra, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, the Alberta Baroque Ensemble and the Montréal Symphony Orchestra. Barry Nemish has been Principal Timpanist with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra since 1974. He last appeared as a soloist with the ESO in a performance of Werner Thärichen's Timpani Concerto in February, 2004. He was also featured in Bartók’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Percussion in 1993. Mr. Nemish is married, and has three children.

Brian Jones: Percussion  

Brian Jones has performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra since 1968. A graduate of the University of Alberta, Brian studied with Forrest Clark and Earl Hatch in Los Angeles. He has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the Capetown Symphony Orchestra in South Africa, and won first prize at the Percussion Arts Society Timpani Competition for Southern California. Brian served as Stage Manager for the ESO for five seasons. He is on the staff of the University of Alberta and the Cosmopolitan Music Society. Brian is married to Sheila Jones, the ESO Librarian.

Nora Bumanis: Harp  
Nora Bumanis

Nora Bumanis has been Principal Harpist of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra since 1980. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto, where she studied with Judy Loman. She also studied with Alice Chalifoux at the Salzedo Harp Colony in Camden, Maine and with Lynne Palmer in Seattle, Washington. In addition to her busy orchestral schedule, Ms. Bumanis is much in demand as a soloist, recitalist and teacher. She has performed with most of the leading Canadian symphony orchestras. In addition she has performed with the National Ballet of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company orchestras. Nora Bumanis has given many recitals in North America, including Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Seattle and Mexico City. She is also in great demand as a chamber musician and has frequently been broadcast on CBC radio and television.

Ms. Bumanis teaches at the University of Alberta and Alberta College Conservatory. In 1998, she was on the faculty of the International Banff Festival. She was Managing Director of the Jasper Festival of Music and Wine from 2000 – 2003, and will be returning in the summer of 2010 to perform at the Festival of the Sound in Parry Sound, Ontario. Nora Bumanis and Julia Shaw began their collaboration as Canada's first professional harp duo in 1988. They have recorded five CDs and performed extensively throughout Canada. She was Global TV's Woman of Vision in February 2009 and is an active member of the Edmonton Glenora Rotary Club.
